Weigh In and "Lower" Carb

It's Sunday yet again and time for my weekly weigh in. I weigh every day and track the results on a graph, but I count my official loss or gain each week on Sundays. Last week I weighed 224 pounds. This morning I got on the scale and saw 220. That's a good number! Four pounds gone this week.

I'm still taking phentermine and I'm also still eating smaller portions and "lower" carbs. I guess my diet is not technically LOW carb, because people who eat low carb tend to stay completely away from grains, potatoes, beans, and sometimes even fruit. I do still eat those things but in small amounts and infrequently. I learned on Medifast that eating no more than 15g of carbs in a sitting keeps my blood sugar level. I am flexible with that number, though, and sometimes have 20 or 25g in a sitting... but that's not very often. A lot of my meals have no carbs at all. So it balances out, and no food is off limits, and I learn to control myself and make choices based on my health. It's working and the weight continues to come off. If you'd like to see what I'm eating, you can see everything that has gone into my mouth since Wednesday on my Instagram: lynescapes Instagram.

Here's to another great week and a joyful Christmas season!

Your weight loss is inspiring. I am going to ask my doctor about phentermine, but in the meantime I'm glad to visually see what you are eating for these losses. It looks tasty.

I finished my phentermine four weeks ago. I miss being on it! Now I eat too much, often the wrong things, again, and tired all the time again. And I've regained 1 kg in the 4 weeks. I plan to ask my doctor if I can go back on it next year, after a longer break. Congratulations on your continued losses, you are doing great.

I looked at your instagram. Are you saying what you post there is ALL you eat? You don't have a nibble or this or that or a small snack that's not posted? Because some days you are only posting 2 pictures plus coffee. That doesn't seem like enough food to me.

Thanks all!

I worry about that too. I hope my new habits will stick but carb addiction is a real thing. I may have to be even more strict with my carbs when going off phentermine, and make most of my carbs vegetables.

yes, that's all I am eating. Everything that has gone into my mouth since last Weds is on that IG, with the exception of a few bites of a banana that I forgot to snap a picture of. I am not very hungry on phentermine so have coffee for breakfast most days and then two small meals. Any snacks are small as you can see from the photos. I think it is enough food for a short term weight loss diet.

Any thoughts on making the move now to more vegetables, lean protein and clean food? I see a lot of processed food - yogurt, pork rinds, Ritz crackers, deli meat, sausage, cheese, patties - on your Intagram page. What will maintenance eating look like for you? What are the whole foods you really enjoy?

I will definitely add more fruits and vegetables when I am off the phentermine. Probably more protein as well. Right now I don't eat very much of anything, since I am taking advantage of having no appetite.

I do eat lots of yogurt right now which I think is something I'll continue (Greek yogurt has great protein!) I ate some processed foods but notice the amounts. I mean, in one week I ate two Ritz crackers. Three slices of salami. Three Sun Chips. To me, that is great progress! I also view ground meats as a whole food (the ground beef burger patty, the sausage, and the bratwurst is literally just meat and spices).. soo... what I ate this week that I think is 100% "whole" food:

eggs
cucumbers
avocado
cabbage
tomatoes (if you want to count canned tomatoes as "whole")
carrot
apple
beef
pork
chicken
butternut squash
lettuce
onions
sweet potato
plus the stuff that I think is fine but you might say is too processed, like canned green beans, salted roasted almonds, pickles, sauerkraut, bacon, halibut filets (even if lightly breaded), or canned pinto beans.

I am also good with dairy such as cheese, half and half, and yogurt being part of my diet for the rest of my life. The real culprit in processed food is, for me, the sugary and carby stuff. And my carb level right now feels just right!

If the drug is working why do you have to go off of it? Maybe there is another one that you can try since this has worked so well!

My doctor said it's just a temporary drug for weight loss, so if I stop losing or if I develop complications I have to go off it. Apparently for a lot of people phentermine stops working, usually after 3 months or so. It's still working for me so far, but who knows when it will stop. It's up to my doctor to decide at my next visit whether I get anymore refills. She checks weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and does bloodwork for my thyroid, A1C, cholesterol, and metabolic panel. Not sure about any other drugs though.
