Another Day, Another Ride

Today was a great day for a ride! I did have to take several breaks, but overall it felt like an excellent day!

Continuing down Route 30, there are several markers for the Lewis and Clark Trail. This highway runs alongside their route in several places. The vegetation is lush and the Columbia river runs nearby at the beginning of my ride. Check out the pretty wildflowers near the Twilight Eagle Sanctuary:

I love looking up at the towering pines:

For my first stretch, I rode 4.0 miles, then had to stop and adjust my pedal straps and move my feet around a bit to stop them from going numb. I biked another 1.1 miles before stopping for lunch. After lunch, I got back on and rode 1.8 more miles. Loved this sudden change of view and the mountains in the background.

In case you're interested, here's what I ate today:

black decaf coffee
Breakfast: 2 slices bacon, half an avocado, and a wedge of melon
Lunch: 2 freshly picked tomatoes from a friend's garden, cubed fresh mozzarella, chopped basil leaves, olive oil, salt and pepper
I started having PMS cravings after lunch and had a cheese stick, a pickle, and a chocolate protein bar.
Dinner was leftover spaghetti squash with marinara, 1 meatball, and an Italian sausage. Dessert was a scoop of low carb chocolate ripple ice cream.

After letting my dinner settle, I got back on the bike for a gentle evening ride. I went 2.3 more miles through the forest, making a total of 9.2 miles today... my best day yet! This also marks the day I have less than 3,000 miles left to go. Hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?

I'll leave you with one last scene from the ride along Route 30 in Oregon today. Enjoy!

Enjoy, I do!
You are doing great, it's nice to see that you manage to reach your daily goal in several sessions.
I was looking at the map the other day and realized that soon enough you will be in the mountains.
You can count on me to be on the roadside to cheer you up across the passes.
Thanks for sharing your ride.

Thank you! I have never tried doing multiple sessions per day before. I always used to set a goal of riding a certain number of days per week, but this is more motivating because I love coming on the Virtual Mission page and logging my miles. It shows me on a map where I got to, and I look ahead and think "I want to ride to that creek today" or "let's see if I can get through that little town today." Really fun looking at street view to see where I am going, too! I feel good about this :)

I do feel at peace. I have always loved travel but of course can't do it as often as I like. This gives me a little taste of travel every day! This is something I may continue doing in different "places" forever!

Lyn,
Diet sounds like it's pretty high in fat these days? And the processed meats certainly don't do the body any good? Any insight?

Ever considered a plant based diet?

All the best on your epic ride..!!

yes, I am eating more fat now that I am eating less carbs. I am pretty sure low carb + low fat is not a healthy way to go. I'm not considering a plant based diet at this time, because it is pretty tough to get enough protein on a plant based, low carb diet.

Thanks Anon :)

Hey Lyn,

I just started riding a few weeks ago. I set up a myvirtualmission account and started following you tonight. I'm way out of shape and have balance issues. I gave up on my 10 speed a few years ago and bought a trike.

If you want, let's cheer each other on!
