I'm back! I had the most wonderful time on our little trip, which was so nice that we decided while we were there to extend it by one day. The hotel was just great in a perfect location for walking and it had an awesome swimming pool too! We swam every day, sometimes twice a day and also walked a LOT. On day 2, I was so, so sore from all the walking but did it anyway with the help of some medication. I had to soak my feet in ice water in the hotel bathtub twice, and then sat with my feet up on the bed for awhile, but I managed okay. I would guess I walked 3 miles each day. That might not seem like a lot, but if you know my history, you understand what a breakthrough this is. The fact that I was *able* to do it is like a miracle... and it brought me great joy. Yesterday instead of hurting terribly, my feet felt almost normal! I have the slightest ache in one foot and a tolerable bit of soreness in the other *without* medication. This makes me very happy. My plan is to keep right on walking here at home... once in the morning and once in the evening with the dogs and bike 15 minutes or more each day. I think if I can keep up this level of exercise the weight will start coming off a bit faster than 1 or 2 pounds a month I got while sedentary. I feel like my metabolism came to a screeching halt from sitting in a recliner most of my waking hours due to pain, and this activity should wake it back up. I don't know if the ability to walk nearly pain-free will continue, but the best I can do now is enjoy it while it lasts, take good care of my feet, and get the weight off them as quickly as I can.
