Another Day

Today was a pretty good day. I packed my gym bag early and headed straight to the gym from school. This saved me 20 minutes! Much better. I also knew my way around the gym and the machines which got me in and out quicker. I think my general gym trips will be 3 times a week for about and hour and a half, maybe a bit less. Today I just walked a little bit and then did 3 sets of 12-15 reps on the Life Circuit machines. I did them slowly and paid attention to my muscles, how they felt, and whether I was working at the right resistance. The circuit consists of:

Seated Leg Curl
Leg Extension
Biceps Curl
Triceps Press
Chest Press
Shoulder Press
Lat Pulldown
Seated Row
Ab Curl Bench
Ab Crunch
Squat (I skip this one)

When I was done I was going to ask the trainer to help me find a machine that mimics the hip raising/standing exercises my PT recommends, but the trainer wasn't there today. I am going to call in the morning and set up an orientation with him to ask about that as well as his recommendation on any of the lower impact machines they have, similar to the elliptical. I was too nervous to walk in and try to figure out the machines on my own today, in the middle of all those people confidently working out. So I'll ask the trainer to help me so I can do even more next week.

I was there for 45 minutes and then went home. I sat and rolled my sore feet on frozen water bottles for half an hour and then went to run errands.

I am glad I joined this gym, even though it is only for 3 months. It is helping me form a structured routine for use at home (or another gym). I am figuring out how to do all the strength training moves on my home machine and/or with free weights so I can continue this long term.

That's all for now. I was up at 5am and am tired. Hope to get to bed early tonight.

That sounds like a great exercise. Great ! I am glad you like the gym. You stay there for pretty long time. I am usually all done by one hour and it seems a long time to me, but we all are different.

You can use the cable equipment to do standing leg moves. You might have to change the handle on it, but they are very versitile. Sounds like a well-rounded circuit!

I am so SO happy to hear you are getting into a gym routine! I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me. It took a while for me to make it a habit and get comfortable (esp with weight training) but now I am SO glad I did, it has made a huge improvement in my weight loss, fitness, overall appearance, not to mention my confidence, energy level, and overall happiness. I know you struggle with some health problems that can affect your ability to exercise, but I truly hope you can continue to make it part of your daily life, because the results are SO worth it. Also, as you add this additional activity to your life don't forgot to make sure you are eating enough! 1200 calories a day is NOT enough if you are engaging in 90 minutes of exercise. You need fuel. Take care of yourself.
