Friday Primal Menu

Feeling a little better this evening, but VERY ready to soak in the tub and get to bed. I have some birthday shopping to do first, though.

Today's Primal Eats

Breakfast:
2 eggs
1 sausage patty
1/2 c cherries
1/4  of a red pepper, cut into strips
black coffee

Lunch:
1/4 c macadamia nuts
1/2 c watermelon
1 c whole milk (grass fed, local, unhomogenized) made into an iced latte
Caprese salad of cubed yellow heirloom tomato, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, olive oil, salt and pepper

Snack:
1 square of extra dark chocolate
1 Tbsp almond butter
1/4 c macadamia nuts
1 teeny apricot

Dinner:
1 boneless chicken thigh
3/4 c mashed cauliflower topped with 1 oz grated cheddar and 1 crumbled bacon (this was SO good!)
1 square extra dark chocolate

Totals for today: 1585 calories, 71 g protein, 55 g carbs, 125 g fat

When I get home from shopping, I will probably have a snack (about 100 calories).

I think I need to lay off the nuts a little bit and eat more eggs/meat/veggies instead. I will pick some up at the store tonight.

Baking cakes tomorrow! But not eating them :)

Dark chocolate contains the chemical tyramine, which has been found to trigger migraine headaches. It could be possible that the chocolate is causing your headaches :(

Hi! I found your blog when I searched for 'kohlrabi greens' on google. Wanted to see if anyone else had used them to make 'chips' like kale chips. Anyway, I was curious to see how you were doing on your journey. How excited I was to see that you are 'primal'! I have been primal since 2009 and it has to be the best thing I ever did for my health. Dear Lyn,

I suffer from horrible migraines, and am being treated by a neurologist at a top hospital. One thing that you are not considering is that many foods allowed on Paleo are headache triggers. Google "headache diet" and you'll see. For example, nuts are a big no-no (I've eliminated them completely), as is chocolate.

Please go see a specialist and don't just assume your problems are diet-related.

I've seen lots of specialists for the headaches, as did my mother who had the same problem her whole life. Lots of tests, scans, and ruling things out, but no real answers yet. I do know I get more/worse headaches when I eat a lot of sugar or sweet baked goods.

Also wanted to note, my headaches are atypical in regards to diet, in that some foods considered triggers actually make my headaches go away. Sharp cheddar cheese, for example, can even get rid of a migraine for me sometimes. Eliminating nuts and chocolate in the past did not get rid of the headaches.
