Stomach Bug Weigh In

I know, right? You really want to know how much weight I lost this week being sick, puking my guts out, unable to eat anything one day and having only 500 calories yesterday. Well big drum roll, I lost... a pound. Yep that's right, one stinkin' pound! Down to 214. Now don't get me wrong, I don't advocate vomiting as a weight loss strategy. But IF you are super sick and IF you are puking your guts out from a germ that you can't help, you may as well enjoy the weight loss, right? Well, apparently not...

I managed to re-hydrate myself pretty well yesterday, got lots of water, plain tea and sips of Gatorade in along with chicken soup (skipped the noodles, they really did not appeal to me). I also ate a yogurt yesterday and let me tell you, it was the best tasting yogurt of my life. It wasn't anything super special... just a plain vanilla Brown Cow yogurt. But boy, after being so sick, that yogurt tasted like absolute heaven. Maybe not being able to eat reset my tastebuds or something.

Today I still feel fairly weak and icky. But I had another yogurt for breakfast and I have a can of peaches chilling in the fridge to eat with cottage cheese for lunch. I just can't stomach the thought of vegetables or meats or even eggs right now, so I am getting my protein in with low fat dairy. I'll supplement with some Medifast protein drinks... no chocolate shakes though, the thought turns my stomach. Something fruity will sit better, like an orange or cranberry mango drink.

I am tired of being sick, I am tired of being fat, I am tired of being tired. Something has got to change.

1 lb off has got to be better than 1 lb on, now THAT would have been a real kick in the teeth lol.
You've been unwell so any weightloss at all is a benefit. You can look forward to getting back on track now.
Just don't lose hope, remember why you are doing this and you'll be fine.
You've done amazingly well so far and are an inspiration to others such as myself that are just starting out.

There are studies saying that a Limited Diet is the key to losing weight for good. I read a suggestion to make a list of one fruit, 3 vegetables all different colors and one is green, one kind of protein, one whole grain, and one fat. Then you can eat as much as you want of only those things. Mine is: apple, lettuce, orange peppers, tomatos, chicken, brown rice, and Ranch. So that is all I eat. I have brown rice for breakfast almost every day, chicken and salad for dinner, apples for snacks, chicken vegetble stir fry for dinner. I have lost 11 pounds so far.

I've actually gained weight after puking my head off. It makes no sense! That and the fact I can't make myself puke, keep me from trying bulimia as a weight loss method. JK, I'd not do it under any circumstances.

BTW, the yogurt turned out great.

Hang in there. I think you'll find that once your body settles from the indignity of the virus inflammation will be reduced and that's when the weight loss will settle.

Keep following your instinct on what to eat and avoid too many carbs and you'll be fine.

Praying for a speedy recovery and no more bugs in the house.

It seems like the least the universe could do for you after being so sick is to show a nice loss on the scale, darn it!!! Hope you're on the mend now.

Same thing happened to me a month or so ago. I was super sick with strep throat, not able to take down anything solid. I lost 5 whopping pounds in 4 days but then as soon as I felt better, gained it all back! I know what you mean about tired of being fat. I've managed to lose 25 lbs. so far (it's taken since December) but for whatever reason, I feel resolved for it to happen this time. Good luck with everything!

The last sentence is exactly something I could have said. I'm just so tired of the whole thing. I'm not sick, except the hives. Which are now happening almost every day. We'll get this figured out somehow!

Lyn, I know the feeling! Sometimes it is just too much to keep plodding along trying to get this weight thing under control. I know you won't give up though! It is awful to be sick with one of those stomach bugs and that makes you feel bad all over. In a few days you will be back to just where you want to be with feeling better and eating well at least. The weight will take longer, but you WILL get there! Hang in there and never give up.

Oh, thank you for this post. The way that our brains can mess with our expectations is amazing isn't it? The stomach flu is terrible and you clearly had a terrible bout of it. I suspect you body is healing itself and not willing to give anything up right now while it tries. Your perseverance is inspiring and for today it's helping me both stay on track and keep my crazy weigh-in day thoughts at bay.
