January 1, 2011: 186 Pounds

I almost forgot to post my monthly update! Today I weighed in at 186 pounds, which is a five-pound gain for December. Not what I was looking for, but totally what I earned. The high this month was 189, last week I was back down to 185 so this week I gained one pound. I usually do a weekly weigh-in on Sundays but since the 1st was a Saturday I will take the one pound gain and count it as my weekly weigh in. I expect that to be the last gain you see out of me for a couple of months at least :)

I know a lot of folks have resolved to lose weight this year. Some have a plan, while others are desperately trying to figure out what to do. A lot of people email me asking how to get started, or what to focus on first. Many people who want to lose weight just are not sure how to do it. I'd like to help, if I may. Back in 2008, I put together a "Habit-A-Week Challenge" for myself and readers. Every week I'd post another simple step to improving our health, and we'd work on that one step each week. It's cumulative, so that at the end of the 16-week program, you have 16 excellent healthy habits and have lost weight. It was very helpful to myself and others, so I wanted to resurrect that Challenge for any new readers to use on their own. If you'd like to learn more or give the challenge a try, I have posted a new Challenge page at the top of my blog. On that page there are links to every post each week with directions on what healthy step we worked on that week. It's sort of like a book, with chapters. You can read it at your own pace but I recommend one Step per week. Check it out! Maybe it is just the thing you need to get going on your resolution!

I really hope this is helpful to some of you. Now let's get this weight off!

That's a great idea!

I'd recommend starting by realizing all the bad habits... especially what people eat. And then learning about food - nutritional value, what the body needs etc. For me, everything started falling into place once I knew enough about my body and the stuff I put inside it.

That's a good idea! I know a lot of people who are "recommitting" this month..and I already see nasty habits not being taken care of. The weekly challenge may be the ticket for them!

Lyn,
I loved your habit a week challenge and I look forward to going back through and improving on the habits that I am slacking in :) For those out there who are still needing a little help I joined spark people to count my calories each day and track my fitness and I have lost five pounds just in the last week! It is a free resource and worth looking into!
Happy New Year Lyn!

Hi Lyn,
I've been following your blog for a few months and I have to say it is very inspirational, motivational and what I love most about it is how "real" you are. Tomorrow I start my hcg protocol and am hoping for good results. Everyone has their own journey, their own way of getting to where they need to be. I don't know if that will be my ultimate answer but it's one i'm going to try. Thank you for all your insights to all that goes into trying to lose weight and better ourselves. You rock!
