She's Growing, I'm Shrinking

I went clothes shopping this afternoon. I was going to the store because, like my daughter, I've changed sizes since last season. It was rather funny that after I got out her long pants and tried them on her and saw how they were a couple inches too *short,* I then got out my cold weather sleepwear and put it on only to find it was too *big.* Hey, I like comfy, oversized sleepwear but this was just ridiculous! When the neckhole is hanging off your shoulder and you need a belt to keep the bottoms up, it's time for new pajamas. So off I went to the store to get some fun pj's.

I went to Kohl's and started looking around at the clothes. Pretty sweaters, long sleeved blouses, nice stuff. I wandered through the store looking at things and then looked up and realized I'd crossed over into the "Women's" (aka plus size) section. It is still surreal when I realize that nothing in that section would fit me. It's all too big. So I wandered back to the regular sizes. I picked up some cute size 12 jeans but put them back. I am going to try to get through the 14's and 12's without buying anymore clothes (I have a few things stashed away).

Finally I went over to the sleepwear section. Funny thing, all the pj's used to be too small. I remember being mad years ago because I could never find decent pajamas in a 3X. I actually bought some in a junior's large last year because they were super cute, even though I wondered if I would ever be able to wear them. I wore them last night.

So I picked out two pj sets in a large (because I do like them to be loose and comfy) and I am happy to have something nice, warm, and soft to wear to bed. It's comforting to me. I used to comfort and soothe myself with candy bars and donuts, but I like this way better.

Dinner tonight: homemade chicken vegetable soup. Scale says: 182.

Hey Lyn,
Ive started shopping at Goodwill since I won't be in a size long enough to justify retail prices. I'm thrilled to find designer, barely worn items that allow me to look fabulous and stylish right now at size 18 without having to wait. It's an emotional boost, too, that keeps me delighted to stay on track. Since the financial investment is minimal, I'm happy to lose more weight w/o the "but I haven't justified the expense of this outfit, yet!" I also like to buy cute accesories that will transition regardless of size. This is my way of celebrating that I am already fabulous, not just when I am skinny!

I am still in the plus sizes, but I have dropped a couple of sizes. I can not wait until I can go shopping and not have to go into the plus size department.. Congrats on your new PJ's..

I love the jammies at Target! I just pulled out last year's warm pajamas and they're too big. Yet another thing to replace!

Isn't this a great problem to have?

That is an awesome story! It reminds me of how I bought a really cute dress over three years ago to motivate me to lose weight. It hung in my closet for over three years, and I was finally able to wear it last week! Way to go! Yeah for success!

Wow!! I bet that is an amazing feeling!! I can't wait until I don't have to shop in the plus size section. I have always tried to be a cute, trendy dresser and there is nothing ever close to that in the plus size section. YAY for you!!!

smaller, cuter clothes is my favorite motivation. It is always such a rush. I can buy tops in a regular store now and it isn't even the largest they have and I am thisclose to being able to do the same with bottoms.

I'm in my "between" sizes, down some, but a long way to go. Good for you to be in regular sizes.
