My Sick Girl

Another short update. I wanted to write something more interesting today, but wow, what a day it has been.

It started last night around 8:30 when my little girl had a nosebleed. It was a pretty intense one and she was quite upset, so it took awhile to get it all taken care of and her back to sleep. Then, around 1am, she woke up crying in agony. Those 'bulging eardrums' from when she was sick last week have become infected. I was up with her for hours; the usual pain medications didn't work well at all. Finally I got her to sleep and then in the morning, I gave her Tylenol and called in a prescription for antibiotics and she seemed fine. No fever.

But by noon she was miserable again, and the lame pediatrician (I am looking for a new one... my old, trusted pediatrician moved out of town) called in a prescription for a medication my daughter is ALLERGIC TO (great call there doc). The pharmacy called to alert me, and then it took all day to get a different prescription called in. My poor girl has been crying, sitting on my lap, or sleeping all day. It breaks my heart.

Around 3pm she was asleep on the couch and my teens were home from school so I went out to do yard work. I raked and shoveled for a solid hour. Every muscle in my body aches!! My arms feel like rubber bands and my midsection feels like I did 100 situps. Ahhh. Sore but good! And the yard is looking much better.

And now my baby girl is playing a Wii game with her teenage brother, distracting her a bit from her pain. I hope her ears get better soon. She has been sick this time for 9 days now (she had a 104 fever last week) and is sad because she is missing preschool and her dance classes. Please say a little prayer or send a positive thought for my sweet girl.

Maybe I'll have more time and energy to write tomorrow. I am hanging in there!

Ear infections are insanely painful. Try pouring some olive oil in her ears; that's what my parents did and it always helped to soothe them a little. I'm praying she gets better soon.

Hope that your little girl gets better soon... Not that it's any consolation, but when I was last admitted to hospital (post-natal complications) even though it was in my notes AND on my wristband that I was allergic to it, I was given a shot of morphine. Not very pleasant... :o(

Ow ear infections?

There is a home remedy for ear infections (at least it'll give your daughter some relief but it's cured my ear infections). Take 3 drops of lemon juice (real lemon) and put it in one year (obviously she needs to lie down or tilt her head for this- count slowly to 5 seconds- then turn her head the other way to drain out the excess juice. Repeat with the other ear. Obviously a towel will be needed :)

It basically kills the bacteria causing the buildup and pain and allows her ears to flush out the buildup.

I am a person prone to ear infections. Anytime I take medication I get them, anytime I get a shot, and so on. Since I've done this I INSTANTLY feel better and most of the time the next day I am 100% fine. You can google it too- home remedy ear infections lemon or something :)

I hope your baby girl feels better soon! My son get ear infections frequently and it is so hard to see them in such pain.

Good for you for getting out there and doing yard work! I don't think I could have done that after being up most of the night.

Hello :) I've been following your blog for sometime now, and I think you're awesome.

I decided to comment because I was just like your daughter for a lot of my childhood. I got ear infections constantly. One instance, I was so sick, fever, couldn't keep anything down for two weeks. They thought it was a virus, then appendicitis! In the end it turned out to be another crazy ear infection! (I was 10 and I lost 20 lbs!-- I wouldn't mind one of those now.. just saying :) jk!)

One thing that really helped me was my laying with ear down on a heating pad. I'm not sure exactly where it is hurting your baby girl, but my whole ear inside and outside and sometimes down my jaw bone would ache. It sometimes hurts at first because the outside can be sensitive, but it really helps to soothe the pain.

I hope she gets better soon!

Thank you all for the thoughts, wishes, and helpful remedies to try. She is improved but still obviously sick, and I have a migraine that won't quit and is causing me vision disturbances and nausea. Not having the best day, here...
