Awake and Alive!

I am feeling great today! It's cool and windy and leaves are blowing everywhere. Have I mentioned how much I *love* raking leaves? I used to dread it. It's a lot of work. And it's no fun trying to sling a rake around your 278-pound body with the protruding belly, hips and arms. I HATED raking. I would break out in a sweat within 30 seconds of trying to rake, and then I would get cranky and start bossing my kids to stop jumping in the damn leaf piles and start raking and bagging. But now, I just love to rake. The other day my daughter and I spent 20 minutes in the yard raking together, for the sole purpose of making a huge pile for her to jump in. Her laughter and sheer joy were intoxicating! I didn't *care* that she scattered leaves all over the place. I didn't *care* that we weren't bagging them. We were having fun, I got a great workout in the sunshine, and then we left the huge pile to be re-scattered by the wind for more raking fun later in the week. (Yeah, I better get bagging though, as the giant maple still has more than half its leaves left on the branches!)

I've met some goals this week that I made for November:
1) I ate between 1200 and 1700 calories per day, each day this week
2) I increased my exercise (aiming for 5x/week) by walking 40+ minutes twice and biking 30 minutes twice. (Plan to bike again tonight).
3) Dropped the coffee and switched to tea. I really wanted my coffee this morning, but once I got the tea made I enjoyed that just as well!

I am still completely OFF sodas and fast food. We had a breakdown moment in the car yesterday, where my preschooler asked for McDonald's and then, when I declined, wailed, "WHY don't you ever take me to McDonald's??? You USED to take me all the time! I want chicken nuggets! No I don't want them from HOME! WHY aren't you taking me to McDonald's anymore??" But I presevered, came home, baked her some nuggets and fries and she was just fine. Baby steps...

Today I can't wait to get outside in the sunshine and play with my girl. Each day is a gift. The sun feels so good on my skin and I feel so alive!

Life is good, I am happy. I hope you, too, are *awake* and enjoying life. Have a SUPER weekend!

Living in the moment--that's what it's all about. Let life, laughter, and fun into your life and food seems like a dull substitute. You're doing great! I wish I could have joined you. I miss leaf piles sooo much!

Wow -- that is beautiful! You're preschooler noticed the changes to your diet (and hers) that is fantastic! It means you are really sticking to your guns, and changing for the better!

I've just begun a new weightloss journey -- to lose 10 lbs in order to run faster. Your blog is giving me LOTS of inspiration to do this! Thank you!

Your happiness is completely infectious. I agree with Autumnforest---you are completely living in the moment. Life is truly good.

I have a hike in the sierra mountains planned this week. It's a trip a friend and I are taking to see the lovely fall colors. Yes, life is truly wonderful.

Homemade "fastfood" is definitely the way to go. :) Much better!

All these positive posts make me smile!

Sounds like you're having great fun - I need to get out and rake. My daughter missed the first time I raked because she was sick - she's desperate to jump in a pile of leaves. Maybe this time I'll join her.

That first paragraph was so happy it was sickening. Lol. Just because I detest raking leaves. Luckily I don't have to do too much of it where I live.

And chya, don't you know that fried minced up chicken meat is SO much better than anything you could make at home? *eye roll*

I would rake the the leaves when I was kid just to jump in them. Of course where I live now, there isn't any leaves to rake. No trees in the yard. I miss doing that. By the way great fall photos you took in your other post. I'm making sure not to miss the fall this year like I use to do in the past.

Curious - How are you making the nuggets at home?

and do you just tell her eating them from home - or do you explain about nutrition?

Vickie~

Usually I bake them from frozen. Occasionally I make them from scratch (baked). Yes, we do talk about nutrition, on her level.

Hi, Lyn ~
Tomorrow marks one month for me for giving up my only 1 or 2 times per week!, DIET soda pop. *sigh* But I am doing it. Just wanted to let u know u aren't alone there... I feel so many reasons I could justify having it, it was only 1 or 2 glasses per week, it was DIET..how bad could it be? But. I too have stopped. I know deep down it is better health wise, and I thought it might help keep pounds off due to chemicals & sodium, etc. I wish there was a big noticeable change/difference, but we know it's better this way, eh?

And it does help ME knowing u and I are in this together. :) Chrissy
