Looong Weekend

A couple days ago, I spent the evening on my knees (which would have been impossible 50 pounds ago), scrubbing my son's puke out of the carpet. Poor kid was so miserable. But at 13, he was able to clean himself up ok, take a shower, go to bed, and sleep it off for 24 hours. All I had to do was scrub up when he didn't make it to the bathroom, and give him sips of liquid and saltines when he was feeling up to it.

But a three-year-old with the same sickness is a lot tougher.

Saturday night my daughter came into my bed at 11pm and promptly puked all over the place. My poor baby. She didn't understand what was happening... she hasn't thrown up since she was about 2 years old. It was just so heartbreaking holding her hair back while she retched over the toilet, gagging and saying, "this is SO TERRIBLE!"

It went on for HOURS. She vomited literally every 15 minutes like clockwork from 11pm to 5am. By the time it stopped, nearly every sheet, towel, and paper towel in the house was dirty. We finally got to sleep by 5:30... but at 7:30 we both woke up to the most horrible, rotting roadkill smell ever... and she said, "My pants are stinky and dirty!" Yeah... so the diarrhea began. More bathing, more toilet time, finally got THAT taken care of and had her lying on the couch, when at 9:00 *I* started puking. And it was horrible, really bad. I am a whiner about puking. I HATE IT. And I threw up every 15 minutes, I kid you not, from 9:00am until 6pm. I was almost delirious at times, lying on the floor of the bathroom while my teenagers washed diarrhea off the toddler in the bathtub. I don't know what I would have done without my older kids... but I felt SO BAD for them. The last day of spring break, and they get to stay inside and wash a poopy toddler and listen to their Mom retching in the bathroom all day. I've never even made those kids change a diaper! But they stepped up and took care of her while I was sick. I felt so bad that I couldn't really comfort her, but we got through it. After 6pm, we got some rest and I only puked two more times. By 11pm I was done throwing up. But then the diarrhea hit. I'll spare you the details.

So this morning the older kids went off to school, and I am finally coherent. My daughter and I are just sipping liquids and napping a lot right now, but when I have the strength, boy do I have a LOT of laundry to do.

Sorry for the icky post! I should have something more intelligent to say by tomorrow :)

Oh, my friend....what an awful few days!

Your boys deserve a pat on the back, all right, for being such a help with an icky job! Tell them I think they are great.

Take care of yourself today - rest.

Oof, one time my mother-in-law gave us all food poisoning, and it was three people battling for toilet rights (thank god they had two bathrooms) all night.

Blimey you poor people, so sorry to hear you have been ill - sounds like a case of food poisoning to me - lucky the others didn't suffer. Take rest and I hope you feel better soon.

Awww Lyn I hope you feel better! I just had the flu too and at one point, I would have been happy if the world ended right then and there. Saltines and tea helped me get back on track but I suffered from the blues for about 3 weeks after.

Awwww I'm so sorry you and the kids were so sick. I'm glad you had the older kids to help you. Those days like that are just terrible. Hope you and the girl get some rest today and no one else catches the sickness. You telling your story made me think of when we've went through that here. I always seem to catch everything too. Hang in there, big hugs.

Next time one of the kids is sick, line a small wastebasket with a plastic grocery bag or trash bag and put it next to their bed along with a supply of old towels.

This has saved more cleanups at our house than I can count and the kids can handle it at a pretty young age too.

hope everyone feels better soon!

My gosh, Lyn, I do hope you all get over this real soon!
What do you think it was, food poisoning or a sudden bout of flu? Whatever, sounds awful. Really, you're amazing for being able to deal with it while sick yourself.
Hugs.

oh, I think it is some kind of stomach bug, not food poisoning. Because one child got sick Thurs, one Fri, me Saturday and now, just ten minutes ago, ANOTHER one of my kids came home from school after throwing up there!

I'm guessing that wasn't the busy weekend you'd planned. Thank goodness for the older kids who could help you!

Rest now!
Or after you get the last child past it.

Kids seem to be so much more resilient when it comes to the stomach bugs don't they? When I get it, I feel like the world is ending. LOL I'm glad you are on the road to recovery and I hope by the time you read this, everyone is done and finished with it.
