Winner... and Update

The winner of the Mary Lou's Weigh Platform giveaway is Shelley! Congratulations Shelley, I hope you have a high perkiness tolerance! (But really, you will love it!) Shelley's been contacted and will have a new scale on the way to her shortly. More giveaways are coming up :)

As for me, today is the first day since last Thursday that I have not been suffering with the flu. I had a headache for 7 days straight. And I was so dizzy. Today was a lot better, but very tired. I had big plans to bike and clean the house but all I got done was a load of wash. I think I will have more energy tomorrow.

Yesterday my kid fell on his finger and we thought it was fractured, so I spent hours at the doctor and then getting x-rays. Good news: no fracture! Just a bad sprain. He's in a splint, but he'll be fine. Which is great because my other kid broke his fingers twice last year playing baseball. No fun.

In other news, my beloved mini-dog (who is my sixth child) has a heart murmur that is getting worse. The tests they want to do are astronomically expensive. I love this dog. LOVE. He is ten, and has been one of the family every hour of every day for all ten years. He seems fine right now... energetic, happy, frisky... but I am scared for him. He goes with us on all our vacations. He has been such a cheerful little guy and... I just love him so much, so I am hoping I can figure out what to do next.

The husband is returning next week for 2 weeks. He is already planning to "make candy." I think I should just rip my head off and keep it in a separate room from him the entire time so I don't a) flip out and say dumb stuff I'll regret or b) lose my mind. If you don't know the relationship history... don't ask. If you really wanna know, read the December blog posts. Or June's. But anyway it's going to be interesting, with Valentine's Day involved and all. I have no idea what to expect.

I have lots of good stuff in the fridge: blueberries, Clementines, apples, leeks, asparagus, spinach, squash... ready for a very healthy day tomorrow. Planned meals:

Breakfast: Scottish Oatmeal (YUMMY if you haven't tried this), fresh blueberries, green tea

Lunch (out with another mom and our daughters): I'll pack Clementines, apple slices, PB&J for the kidlet and a string cheese and almonds for me. Big bottle of water.

Snack: yogurt, tea

Dinner: roasted chicken (breast for me), mashed potatoes (made with skim milk), steamed broccoli. Daughter and I are making a pie for dessert. Nothing major, I'll probably have a half slice but I'll figure it into my calories and delete the mashed taters from my plate if I need to.

Hope to bike if I have the energy. And clean the house. It's going to be a really good weekend!

Hey Lyn,

Congrats on your successful day, no matter you didn't do all you wanted. Be anxious for nothing.

I love scottish oats and blueberries, all warm and the berries bursting inside :)

Keep up with the journey, you will get there.

Lyn have you tried adding cauliflower to your potatoes? You might just want to do this for yourself first - and then slowly add to the kids. It is a way to get the taste (if the taste doesn't set you up for other wants) of potatoes with very little potatoes. I steam them, beat them with a mixer (or put in the food processor) and then add to the potatoes. For yourself I would suggest doing this in a measured way - so much measured potato added to so much measured cauliflower so you know exactly what the calorie count is. For the kids - I started out with a tiny bit of cauliflower and worked my way up to 50-50 (but it is KEY to use the mixer or food processer for the kids - to even out the texture).

I can totally understand the husband thing. I wigged out on my fiancee when he said that he would support me and then I come home to him baking cookies!! Men!

Grats on an awesome day!!! You are the bestest. :)

Man, your husband makes me mad, no matter when you mention him! Making Candy? How about he goes and makes himself another apartment for a while? Over Valentine's Day as well... FEH!

You said he plays computer games, does he play World of Warcraft? Because if he does, I will find him and challenge him to a duel and whip him good! All because you're awesome... >D Happy Friday!

Hi Lynn -
Glad to hear you are feeling better! Continue to take care of yourself - you are awesome and your blog is part of my daily time for me.

Hey, Lyn! Having your husband there sounds just--painful. I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. *Hugs* But you are doing amazingly well despite all the stress and uncertainty. You are a great inspiration!

Lyn - so glad you are feeling a little better. I'll be thinking of you in regards to your puppy situation - I've had many pets through the years, but the cat I grew up with for fifteen years held a place in my heart that none of the others did. Enjoy him while he still has the zest of life :)

Hang in there, Lyn, and I hope you're feeling better soon! Sounds like you've got a good plan, though.

Glad your feeling a little better. Don't try to over do it or you might have a set-back.

I can just imagine the dread you're feeling about the next 2 wks. I wish he could stay with a friend or something. The strength it takes to deal with him being there may not be so good for your health.

Try to get the heck out of there as often as you can. :)

I'm so disappointed that I didn't win the scale. I had some plans for that scale! Good for you with all the planning out your food. I'm pretty sure that is the next move in the right direction for me. Hope your lunch goes well!

Whoa, just went way back into your archives and got caught up on your situation. Be like that calm and composed woman from divorce court. We never regret taking the high road. Good luck with the situation. Sending you some internet strength and serenity.

So glad you are feeling better. And your little dog will do fine. Dogs often live long and happy lives with heart murmurs. :)

As for your husband, remember that he is lucky to have such a young hot act that way when you deal with him!!!!

Your husband sounds like a world class manipulator. Can I suggest that you read "The Sociopath Nnext Door"? You may find it insightful.

Sending big hugs to your puppy. My 13 year old pup is also facing some health challenges. I pray that your pup will stay comfortable for as long as possible.

He's making candy????I'm sorry Lyn, I know you probably still love him but the man is a total douchebag. Every time he comes into the picture I think all of us who read your blog just groan and want to throw shoes at his groinal area.

keep your chin up girl, and just do what you do.
