STILL sick, just updating

I am still pretty miserable. I have this awful head cold that makes it hard to breathe through my nose, yet my nose is running all the time. I am going through more Kleenex than you would believe. My ears are plugged up, my throat is sore, and I just feel overall very achy and icky. Wahhh! Okay, whine over. I am sure I will be better in a few days.

I stopped weighing while sick. I have not done one single calorie's worth of exercise. I am just too exhausted. I haven't even done much house work. So tired. Yet, I am getting very little sleep. Lemme tell you.

The Toddler Princess thinks it is fun to get up all hours of the night just to say hi. She does go right back to bed (after potty) but it still wakes me up. She is up at 6am every morning, shouting, "Good morning everybody!!!" Such a ray of sunshine :) I am up late helping teens with homework and such. And let me tell you about the rodent.

Awhile back one of my kids found a screeching rodent on the sidewalk, with cats coming from all over the neighborhood for a warm snack. So being that his mother has a career relating to such critters, the boy called me over to assess the rodent. It was a tiny baby squirrel with its eyes still shut. Well, after checking around for a nest or other squirrels or what have you and finding none, I decided to rescue said rodent from the waiting cats (much to their dismay) and bring it in for the night (it gets pretty cold at night here now). And so, after checking around for a local rehabber and finding that they are extremely limited and only interested in endangered species, I took on the rehabbing myself. Notice: NEVER keep a wild animal as a pet. It is just cruel. Always turn them over to a rehabber if possible. I have a bit of background in this so I know what I am doing. So, now I have this rodent in a box in my bedroom and am feeding it every 3-4 hours with a syringe dropper. Lovely. Don't get me wrong, he is cute and all, and I am happy to do it for the Greater Good, but I will be very happy when he is big enough to be free again. Meanwhile, he squeaks quite loudly when he is hungry, day and night. So yeah, I don't get much sleep.

I also found a couple of dogs running around on the highway in rush hour traffic the other day so we stopped and got them, brought them home and it took 2 days to find their owners. But they are back home where they belong (at least for now, since SOME people do not think it is necessary to LICENSE their dogs, MICROCHIP their dogs, or even have a NAME AND PHONE NUMBER TAG on their dogs).

I ordered pizza this weekend because I was too sick to go shopping or cook or anything like that but I needed to feed the kids. I ate pizza. I also drank a lot of juice, soup, and tea. And toast and stuff. I think I have gained.. I feel bloated. Tomorrow I will try and just eat healthy stuff although I can't stand to look at a vegetable at the moment.

Here's to better health soon. Be well!

I think having a cold is the hardest time to eat healthy. It seems the sore throat, stuffy, runny nose, and aches just cry out for "comfort food". Sounds like you are doing real well, considering.

probably getting up so much during the night to care for the poor helpless baby squirrel and to greet your own little ray of sunshine does not help in getting "over" the cold. But what can you do?

Take as good care of yourself as possible while caring for children and animals.....and I hope you feel better real soon!

awh, that stinks. I hate being sick. But to be honest right now you need to only worry about nurturing your body back to health and get over this cold so you can go back to your routine--no need to worry about weighing in or eating righ--just drink your fluids, rest and get better.

Hope you feel better real soon...did you try the vicks on the bottoms of your feet??

I bet the baby squirrel is so cute!! I used to operate a rescue/sanctuary/rehab facility for exotics so I am definately a fellow animal lover!

Bless you for taking care of animals in need. On behalf of the universe, thank you!

What a nice thing you're doing for the squirrel.

I hope you feel better soon. It's very hard to diet when you don't feel well so give yourself a break! I can't stomach my beloved veggies when I don't feel well.

Take good care Lyn.

Oh you poor thing. It is just miserable being sick, isn't it? Thanks for your nice comment on my whiney post the other day :).

When I'm sick I take care of myself, and eat what sounds good and what I can manage..when I am well there is time enough for the other.

And the dogs too! You are awesome!

I hope you are feeling better soon!

Ugh, sorry to hear that you're sick. I hope you're feeling better soon! Take care, and keep up the broth and tea...I find those helpful in curbing food cravings even when I'm not sick.

I don't understand why the other adult in the house cannot cook for the kids, especially when you're sick! I hope you feel better soon!

I think Anonymous needs to keep comments like that to herself/himself. Until you live in someone else's shoes, you can never know what they are going through. Ordering pizza for the family when you are sick is perfectly fine in my book, Lyn. Anonymous--If you follow her blog, you will know that her husband is not much in the picture as of late.

Hope you feel better soon Lyn. Rest when possible, lots of fluids, and vitamins ;)

Sorry for butting in, but it's a pms kind of day and I can't stand the holier-than-thou attitude, especially when directed at a fellow mommy who's feeling crappy at the moment ;)

I saw after this posted, you had taken the nasty comment off ......good for you :)

Thanks Annette :)

Yes, I deleted it... some people are just rude and have a *sour grapes* attitude. No need for that around here!

I am starting to feel a little better... I think tomorrow I will be back on the bike!

The priority is for you now to get well, the scale can wait :-)
I may have figured out a way to blur faces in pics, I'll write about it on my blog today or tomorrow!

Good golly aren't we a pair! I got sick on saturday --super sick as well--might be mono, epstein barr or *fingers crossed* it's just strep throat. I feel your pain. Take care of yourself first, and your family, and hope to hear your bubbly happy voice again in your posts.

PS. I did not get the grande finale of eating this past weekend as I'd hoped (I wrote before that I was thinking of all the foods I wanted before I "started" again). well someone out there decided to make me sick - no amount of M&M's or popcorn or smores could get me to actually eat them, my tonsils being so large and sore I can barely drink iced water. I guess being sick is sort-of a blessing...
