Food Can't Hug You

Sometimes I think many of us are looking for a lot of things in our bowl of Coco Puffs. Not nourishment, that's for sure... but something else. When you dive into those chips and dip, what are you REALLY looking for?


Maybe instead of a box of Ding Dongs, what we really need is a hug. Just to feel arms around us. The special comfort of human touch. And it ain't in a Chalupa.

I am learning more and more every day to look at food for what it is: a source of nourishment AND pleasure. I will never see food as "just fuel." But it can be enjoyable without the emotional attachment and the unreasonable expectations.

I am doing well with my eating. I still weigh 219. Today I rode my exercise bike for 30 minutes, just like I did yesterday, and it felt really good. And what am I eating to lose weight? Over the last couple days I have eaten:

fresh grilled salmon
chicken breasts cooked with sweet onions, mushrooms and yellow peppers
cooked beet greens
salads topped with leftover chicken and veggies
lots of fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries
iced green tea
fresh pineapple
pot roast with carrots, celery and peas... and even some low fat mashed potatoes with gravy
a leftover grilled salmon sandwich
carrots and roasted garlic hummus
waffles with almond butter and berries

Not bad, huh? I don't let myself get too hungry. And I enjoy the food. But I do not look for affection in a plate of french toast anymore. It's just not going to happen. You may find love in another person, or not, but the bottom line is we have to love ourselves. I love myself. You are worth loving, too. Remember that, and find peace.

You are so right about the "hug". Over the past 6 months of watching my eating habits, I still realize I LOVE food, but I make healthier choices.

glad you are doing well, and you have the right mentality. I too have learned to see food in that way and it is kind of refreshing when you can see that food isnt the cure to everything.

Great post... It's a great task to discover what exactly you're looking for when you down the unhealthy, processed fatty or sugary food, and then set out to get it in a place different than your fridge. Mmmm, your menu is making my mouth water!
