April 1, 2008: 235 Pounds

Despite eating half of a supreme Pizza Hut Pizza, a bag of Cheetos, 2 cans of regular Coke and a couple of DQ Brownie sundaes last night, I am down a pound to 235! Yay!

April Fool! Haha, gotcha. Funny since it isn't true ANYMORE... but yeah, that used to be my life. In reality, I had low fat stroganoff and romaine salad last night, rode my bike for 20 minutes, and did my strength training routine, and I really AM 235 this morning. So Yay for real. That is 5 pounds total for March. (And if you are at the beginning of your weight loss journey and think 5 pounds is nothing, I encourage you to look at my sidebar there at all the "nothings" I have lost each month since August and then look at my 40 pounds gone pictures. Those "nothings" really add up if you give them time and stick with it). I am down 43 pounds total now, and sometimes I still can't believe it. I never thought I could do this. It seemed impossible. But finally I found the key. Never give up. Just keep going. Stop waiting until tomorrow, next Monday, or next month to eat right. Put down the junk and eat right, RIGHT NOW. Get off the couch and move, RIGHT NOW. Not tomorrow or next week. This very moment is the only moment you really have. So do the right thing for your body in this moment. That's the key.

I am usually not much for platitudes, but sometimes a simple little phrase can deeply and profoundly affect a person. I have a couple of mantras that I like to remember whether I am struggling or not. I don't know who said some of these things; some of them I found in online forums in people's posts, and I don't know if they were original to that person or not. But they inspire me, and I hope that they might inspire you as well. Yes, they are platitudes, so don't over-analyze or try to prove them "wrong"... because that's not the point. The point is to glean a little bit of hope or motivation from them.

Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right. ~Henry Ford

OMG!! You have no idea the look I had on my face when I read that first sentence! Such a jokester! Congrats on your loss. Really, I mean that! :)

I have read your blog from start to finish and I am crying here. I was searching on the net for how to deal with sore feet and I found your blog. I weigh 266lbs and am 32 year old. 14 of those lbs have gone on in the last 8 weeks. I am out of control here. I barely leave the house and am struggling with the daily chores. My family deserve better,. I deserve better. I have just made myself a huge dinner to eat whilst reading your blog. You words have made me put down my fork and actually stop when I feel full. I want this to stop. I want to be like everyone else and not struggle to exist. Congratulations on your weight loss. I feel inspired by you and your thoughts. I hope today can be a new day for me!

Oh I soooo needed to read your post this morning. (You did have me fooled to start with too! - YOU ATE WHAT?????)
But the reminder that all the small things add up was very much needed.

And knowing that you never thought you could do it and that it seemed impossible and yet here you are.

Very encouraging! Congratulations on your loss!

I just found your blog a week or so ago and just thought I should say hi and congratulate you on your weight loss so far!
I too am on a weightloss journey - At the start of the year I was 235 and currently I am 219. I still have a long way to go - I would like to lose about another 90lbs or so (I am 5ft 3 inches tall.)

I have really enjoyed reading your blog so far and your post today has inspired me to "Never give up" We will get there in the end. :-)

Take Care,
Nikki

I have been diligently putting positives in front of my face lately. I particularly like two of those someboody quotes.

Thanks for sharing. Oh, and I went 'ya right' on that first sentence, but it was funny.

Congratulations Lyn!!! 5 pounds off in a month is great! I aim for 4 pounds a month, I'd rather lose the weight slowly and keep it low, rather than lose it fast and then take it all back :-) Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks so much for your continual encouragement, candor, and challenge to step it up. Normally I wouldn't bother to leave a comment like this, but I think I represent a lot of people out there who somehow came across your blog and take a lot from it, but never let you know about it. So thanks for sharing! Hang in there and have a happy and healthy Wednesday!
Oh yes, and your butternut squash mac and cheese was awesome! (I really did not need to double it though! :)) Thinking I need to try leeks soon, though I missed the peak season, I guess.

Love this quote, it's on my fridge. It's the TRUTH plain and simple. Thanks for reminding me!

At 5 lbs a month, just think where you'll be by Christmas! By my estimates - well into ONE-derland! GO GO GO !!
