Update (253) and Exercise

I am excited to report that I am down another pound today to 253. That is 25 pounds gone. I can hardly get my head around that number. 253? ME? It has been a good 4 years since I have been this thin. ("This thin" on someone my size does make me chuckle a bit...) I had gained a pound the other day to 255 and so that evening, instead of the dinner I had planned, I had a big bowl of brussel sprouts with a bit of lowfat Velveeta melted on them. That got rid of the extra pound. And then yesterday, I ate healthy all day and had a Lean Cuisine meal with some steamed broccoli for dinner. A little tweaking, and viola! A new low!

A little experience I had yesterday I would like to share:
I had signed my toddler daughter up for a gymnastics class. I thought it would get her around other kids and she would have fun. She was quite excited. Then they told me it was a "parent participation" class and I would be expected to follow along with her. Ummmm.... me? Gymnastics? I am sure you can imagine the images in my head. The cartoon hippo from the Disney movie "Fantasia" with a frilly tutu on, walking a balance beam came to mind. But thankfully, toddlers stay pretty much on the floor, and don't do anything too drastic. However, they DID sit on the floor in a circle several times and then have to get up. This is not something I could have done 25 pounds ago. If I ever accidentally ended up sitting on the floor, it took a monumental effort and excruciating knee pain, as well as something very sturdy to hang onto, to haul my hefty self off the floor. But yesterday I was able to get up fairly easily and without dramatics. (And yes, I was by far the fattest parent in the class). Then, they ran around in the circle... skipping, hopping, running, jumping for about 10 minutes. It was a workout!! Now, you all know I cannot RUN, but these are toddlers we are talking about, and they were running in a circle, so their speed was somewhat controlled. I was walking pretty darn fast, but I kept up. Again, something that would have given me a heart attack 25 pounds ago. There is NO WAY I could have done it. NO way. After class was over, my daughter jumped up and down and gleefully said, "I wanna do it again!" And so we will go back next week, and the week after, and the week after that, enjoying some fun activity together and doing something she loves. If I had not lost this weight, I honestly would have had to pull her from the class. I would have had to tell, her, "I'm sorry, honey, but this is too hard for Mommy." Thank GOODNESS I have lost this weight. I am so, so thankful. Wow, the difference a couple of months of effort can make.

About exercise... I had posted about the new recumbent bike I got. I have been trying to ride it almost every day. I started with 5 minutes, and have gradually worked up to 10 minutes. And so far, me knees are cooperating. No excruciating pain during or after riding. I feel the burn in my thighs, and I know I am getting stronger. The monitor tells me I burn about 50 calories on my 10 minute ride, but this is more about getting stability back in the joints. This is about being able to walk again. I am on my way.

Most awesome!

Honey, in my world, 253 is thin! Last time I was 253, I was wearing a misses size 18 and looked quite good.

I am so happy for you - not just the weight loss, but that you are regaining the strength/fitness and are able to do things with your kids - like walk around the fair all day or gymnastics class.

I believe that your mind/heart have already escaped obesity - no surprise that your body is following so willingly. :D

I'm SO happy that you were able to keep up with your daughter in her little exercise class! I bet you were on "Cloud 9!" Look at all the progress that you have made already! Good for you!

I am so proud of you! Congratulations!

It's true that our weight affects our families negatively in so many ways. They benefit so much when we start losing the weight. Most importantly we're likely to live longer, which results in the most basic and fundamental thing a kid needs - a parent who is there...

Well done and thanks for inspiring me again and again...
