Update (262) and Tag!

A little update on the weight loss...

I weighed in this morning at 262. Yeah! That is SIXTEEN pounds gone. This is getting easier...

I went to the Farmer's Market this morning. I think this is one of my keys to losing weight. I always have healthy foods on hand, and when I have fresh veggies in the fridge I feel compelled to use them and not let them go to waste, so I have them with dinner and for lunch far more often. I bought 3 kinds of apples, 5 kinds of plums and pluots, blackberries, blueberries, black seedless grapes, a seedless watermelon, 2 cantaloupes, a green pepper, some yellow squash, a butternut squash, beets with greens, and yellow sweet corn. Tell me that doesn't make your mouth water!?! Who needs junk!

Now...I have been "tagged" by Twix from ("Choosing to Live.") Being new to this whole blog scene, I found out I am supposed to post 8 random things about myself. So I will give it a shot!

1. I use my belly as a mouse pad. You know how women who are 9 months pregnant can set a can of Coke on their belly like a shelf? Yes, indeed, my stomach pokes out SO much that I can use it as a mousepad. I am using this as a gauge of how well I am doing. When I can no longer mouse horizontally across my belly I will know I have crossed some kind of weight-loss threshold.

2. I feel thinner when my feet are nice. I have huge feet (10-11 wide) and feel klutzy but I make an attempt at femininity by soaking my feet, smoothing them with a pumice stone, painting my toenails some girly color, and slathering on a ton of lotion and wearing socks to bed so my feet are smooth and cute. Big, but cute. Oh, and my second toe is longer than my big toe, and I swear if one more person calls them "clown feet" or "hobbit feet" I will club them with a chicken drumstick.

3. I have headless pictures of myself on my blog because I am so freaking embarrassed at how much I weigh. I was thin in college and I would die a thousand deaths if some guy who used to think I was hot came across my blog and recognized me.

4. I love to cook, try new recipes, find new ways to cook things. This is a big help to me in my weight loss journey. However I also like to bake sugary, fatty things and this is trouble!!

5. I am sort of a loner by nature. I have lots of kids, and lots of acquaintances and some friends, but I spend a LOT of time alone. I do not go out any more than necessary and I do not really have a social life at this point. I have in the past. I wonder if this is a product of my morbid obesity, and wonder if it will change when I lose the weight.

6. I have a couple of college degrees but right now am a stay-at-home mom. I will go back and get my PhD in a couple of years.

7. Sometimes I buy myself flowers from the grocery store. My DH is not the type to do anything romantic and does not often get me flowers, but I LIKE them, a LOT, so I get the $3.99 carnations or daisies or whatever and place them on the kitchen table, and I enjoy them so much. When I was single I used to wish some guy would send me flowers. Then I got a clue and realized I did not have to wait for some guy to send them. I could get them for MYSELF. So I do!

8. I love the Internet!!!! I got online in late 1997 and have been addicted ever since! There is so much to do, so much to read, so many cool people to interact with. I have had to cut back on my Internet time because I sit too much as it is, and I need to focus on real life stuff. But I do LOVE the Internet!!

I am not going to tag anyone else... just because I am new and have no idea who to tag... but if you want to participate then go ahead and tag yourself for me in the comments section! Now go get something healthy to eat, and a glass of water, and be healthy!

Congratulations on the weight loss! 16 pounds gone is AWESOME! You are doing great! You really are! I am SO happy for you!

I enjoyed reading your list! It's nice to know more about you. I use my belly to balance my plate when hubby and I eat in the living room and I'm sitting on the couch. lol I can't wait until I am no longer able to do that! It comes in handy... but I hate it! lol

Oh... my second toe is longer than my big toe, too. And I've found that as I lose weight... I can fit in a smaller size shoe! Even my feet are fat at this point. lol

I haven't been brave enough to post a picture yet... not even a headless one! lol

"Oh, and my second toe is longer than my big toe,"....ME TOO!!!!

My step grandmother is Lumbee Indian and she said they say if your 2nd toe is longer, you will be the head of your family.

Just a little old wives tale you can pass along the next time someone makes fun of your feet : )

I'm just impressed that you can even "do" your feet. I really struggle to reach, but it's worth it, since I love wearing sandals. I really believe in making an effort with grooming... BECAUSE I'm fat! I don't want people to be able to say that I'm a fat SLOB!
Well done with the weight loss so far...

((Congrats on the weight loss!!))

I love to cook too, lol! Haven't been to the Farmer's Market in forever. Your reminding me makes me want to be sure to go one last time before winter sets in. I really think that's cool that you buy your own flowers. I have been meaning to do that to. We shouldn't wait around, you're right! Thanks for playing along! Hope you have a great weekend!!

Keep up the positive thinking!!

This is a late response. Since you indicated your anniversary, I thought, "What was her year like?" So I have been catching up, and I can't believe how much of what you've written from the beginning to this date is like me. Your eight random things are so similar I had to reply to say WOW!. I too wonder if I'm a loner by choice because of morbid obesity. Partly its because I am afraid of people inflicting emotional hurt, and I don't trust my own judgment anymore to choose appropriately to be safe - that's when it comes to men.
I have no idea where you are in the world, but if you were close by, I believe we'd be pretty good freinds.

Hi Lyn,

It's April 2012 and I've just started reading your blog, from the beginning, I might add. I've struggled with my weight and the last 5-years it has soared upward. I'm tired all of the time and nothing fits. I've hopped on our band wagon of eating healthy. I'm trackin my calories and going to attempt a short bit of walking every day. I pray I can keep at it. Thank you for your insightful blog. It is really encouraging.
