Fat at the Fair

So today is the day I take the kiddos to the county fair. We go every year. They do a lot of riding rides, but I don't. I will be walking around mostly with the baby, seeing animals and art and such. I plan to walk more than usual and take pain medication so I can handle it. I plan to bring my water bottle and stay hydrated because if I dont bring it, I will end up buying one of those refillable soda bottles and drinking junk. So water it is.

Fair food is always a major challenge. There are booths EVERYWHERE and it smells so good! Before, I would always eat like a pig. It was like an excuse to just binge into oblivion and I didnt care what anyone thought. I always went to the Piggly Wiggly stand (ironic?) and got the plate of fried stuff. It was a HUGE plate of onion rings, deep fried zucchini, deep fried other stuff and french fries... enough to easliy feed 4 people... and I would eat the WHOLE THING. My kids don't like that stuff so I had to eat it all myself, right?? Ughhhh. And all that fried stuff I dipped in ranch, and had a bottomless coke with it. I told myself since it had zucchini it was healthy. LOL!! I also would get a smoked turkey leg (for protein LOL) which is HUGE and tastes like ham. That was just one of the things I would get. An hour later I would go to the navajo taco booth and get one of those. That is a large, deep fried bread with greasy taco meat, loads of cheese, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and about a half cup of sour cream on it... kind of like a Taco Bell Chalupa on steroids. I also always would get a triple scoop of ice cream at some point, usually a frozen lemonade at some point, and always got a jumbo homemade corn dog because who can pass those up?? And of course they have an old fashioned, homemade vanilla ice cream booth so I had to get that as well (after all, the triple scoop was just the store bought chocolate kind). I would indeed eat all of this food during one afternoon/evening at the fair. And at the end, we would always buy elephant ears AND funnel cakes!! And I would eat half of each! Good lord, no wonder I am obese! And yes, I got very dirty looks from people shaking their heads as I would sit alone eating that plate of fried junk with grease oozing onto the plate and ranch dripping down the front of my shirt, but I didn't care. I just loved it. More than I loved myself.

This time is going to be different. I already know what I am going to eat. There is a teriyaki chicken booth that sells their chicken in sauce over rice. I am going to ask for it with very little rice (my baby loves the rice so she can eat that). I might get myself a fresh fruit smoothie if the smoothie booth is there. I am bringing a baggie of nuts, a Larabar, a peanut butter Fiber One bar. I will be okay. I might ingest more calories than I would at home, and the chicken might be salty, but it is a far cry better than what I used to eat, and I will be okay. I will eat plenty of fruit before I go, to get in my nutrients.

Wish me luck!
